Are there supports for Gifted Students?

OpenSciEd units are designed with differentiation in mind, allowing teachers to adapt the materials as necessary without diminishing the learning experiences for students. Teachers can find differentiation guidance for high interest or gifted students within the Learning Plans and in two particular types of callouts:

  • Alternate Activity callouts provide guidance to teachers about going further based on student progress and/or interest. These can be particularly helpful for students with high interest or for students or classrooms that need to modify the unit based on availability of time or access to resources.
  • Additional Guidance callouts can be found embedded in a unit’s Learning plans for each lesson. These provide ideas and activities for further/deeper investigation and support differentiation.
  • The Unit Overview contains a section with suggestions for extending parts of the unit to deepen students’ understanding of science ideas.
